Abstract

Mye av restråstoffet som oppstår om bord på norske torsketrålere blir ikke ført til land. I denne artik-kelen drøfter vi hvorfor fartøy i akkurat denne gruppen ikke utnytter restråstoffet bedre. Gjennom en kvalitativ tilnærming supplert med tallanalyser fra landingsstatistikken diskuteres mulige forklarings-variabler og løsninger. Våre resultater viser at ivaretakelse av restråstoff forbindes med økte kostna-der og et marked med lav betalingsvilje. Teknologi fremstår som viktig for utviklingen fremover, mens flåtestrukturen gjør lasteromkapasitet og tid til knapphetsfaktorer. Videre diskuteres praktiske og te-oretiske implikasjoner av disse funnene.

In this article we investigate why a large proportion of Norwegian cod trawlers do not take care of the residuals from their fishery. Possible explanatory variables and solutions are discussed through a qual-itative approach supplemented with numerical analyzes from the landing statistics. Our results show that safeguarding residuals is associated with increased costs and a market with low willingness to pay. Technology appears to be important for future developments, while the fleet structure makes load capacity and time scarcity factors. Implications, both managerial and theoretical, are discussed in the end section.
